No, seriously, why do I have a blog?

No, seriously, why do I have a blog?

by Tina | Mar 25, 2019 | First, Running a business, Writing tips

I’m a writer, and I don’t like math. Shocker, I know. (Bear with me, this does have something to do with blogging.) My problems with math started when lessons slid into more abstract territory, right around freshman year of high school. Trigonometry, calculus,...

2020 was the year I catapulted my freelance gigs i 2020 was the year I catapulted my freelance gigs into a profitable online business *in spite of the pandemic*
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In 2019, I looked around and thought: Maybe I can make this freelancing thing more sustainable and profitable. Like even... turn it into an online business?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But there was something in the way: I had no damn clue how to do that.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sure there was a ton of free content on the internet about how to build an online business, but I was running myself into the ground with my freelance work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I didn't have time to fool around the internet trying out a bunch of vague advice.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then I was invited to an event called PLAY BIG! with @csecoaching
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- And I'm not saying this lightly -
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This event changed everything.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⚡️ How I thought about money.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⚡️ How I thought about showing up for my clients.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⚡️ How I thought about business models.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⚡️ How I thought about marketing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⚡️ How I thought about sales.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It felt like the online business puzzle was snapping together in my brain. I just got it, finally.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you want to join me this year at Play BIG!....

P.S. I want to acknowledge that I was well-positioned to grow during a pandemic that shut down in-person stuff, since my business is completely online and many of my clients also run online businesses.
HOT TIP: SCREENSHOT THE NICE THINGS PEOPLE WRITE T HOT TIP: SCREENSHOT THE NICE THINGS PEOPLE WRITE TO YOU ✌🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1) Because it makes you feel better when you're feeling low or insecure about something [like how I feel sometimes about my ability to teach what I know]
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2) Because social proof is THE way to lend credibility to your marketing and copywriting. And guess what? Screenshots are more believable than copy-pasting testimonials into fancy graphics. Screenshots feel more genuine... because they are.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In conclusion, please write me nice things.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jk.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My real point? Go back through your emails & DMs & comments and screenshot the nice things people said to you. Create a folder in your Google Docs. You'll thank me later when you're looking for an ego-boost or scrounging around for that perfect testimonial to add to your sales page, email, or website.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
P.S. Thank goodness I apparently don't got the "hype" 😅
Have you ever ended up on a sales call with someon Have you ever ended up on a sales call with someone who didn't "get" what you offered? ➡️ That's a sign your marketing isn't solid.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Only, fixing the marketing puzzle isn't simple. Because marketing is a complex beast.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm still in this place myself, trying things, figuring out what really works for me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I DO have a way to get in front of qualified leads, consistently, without any ongoing effort:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ A website that ranks in Google + articulates my vision and value. ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By ranking on page 1 in Google for terms like "website copywriter," I'm getting in front of people who don't need to be told "what a copywriter is" or "why they need a copywriter for their website."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They already know. They are already searching for EXACTLY what I offer. And then...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They find my website.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They read it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the right people reach out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If it’s SEO that gets people to my site in the first place, it’s my my website content that draws in the RIGHT people - those who not only are looking for a website copywriter but also resonate with my personality & specific offer.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These people? They join me on our first call already fairly certain it's me they want to work with, at the investment it entails.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And look, I'm still working on my marketing (I’m posting this, aren’t I?) because I want to help more people and have a bigger impact! But in the meantime, I'm not stressed out about how to find qualified leads.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➡️ TLDR; My website does a ton of heavy lifting for me... so qualified leads find ME. ⬅️

The About Page is one of the trickiest pages to wr The About Page is one of the trickiest pages to write - but not for the reason you think.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's tricky because it's full of weird ego hangups.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"How much should I share?"
"Is this part boring?"
"Does my story sound all over the place?"
"Am I just rambling?"
"Is my personality coming through?"
"Does this sound braggy?"
"Where do I start?"
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➡️ "Will they like me?" ⬅️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
THIS is why I created my About Page Checklist.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Having an objective source to tell you...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ Yes include this ❌ Don’t do this
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
...seems prescriptive, but it's not. No, it actually empowers you to write the hell out of your own story.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By giving you the *distance from your ego* to start putting pen to paper + providing the confidence that you've *done it right* to hit publish when you’re done.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re struggling to write your About Page or you feel cringe about the one you currently have, my About Page Checklist is for YOU.
